Remember the old movie theater across the parking lot from Shoppingtown - where Chillis is now? What old-school movies do you remember seeing there?
Me? I know I saw Teen Wolf there...with my father!  I was 12 or 13...  |

I saw "Empire Strikes Back" there.
It's strange - the theaters where I saw all of the original Star Wars trilogy are gone: Star Wars - Bayberry. Now a carpet store. Empire Strikes Back - Shoppingtown. Moved the theaters into the mall, replaced the building with Chilis Return of the Jedi - theater was in Oswego, on the east side. Became an appliance store, now I think it's empty. Kind of a bummer... -cjb- |

I never knew there was a theater in Bayberry. Was it in Bayberry Plaza on Oswego Road or are you referring to a different Bayberry?
I believe I saw all of the original Star Wars movies at Loews in Penn Can. I also remember seeing some of them at the drive-in, either North Drive-In on Route 11 (Cicero) or the one in Liverpool that I can't think of the name of right now. "HAM??!! Yup...he means Bayberry Plaza, on Old Liverpool Road (rte. 57). That theatre went down pretty early...by the mid-80's it was gone. It was right near where I lived and boy was I upset over that.
Back to the topic, I saw both Empire and Return of the Jedi at that Shoppingtown theater on opening day...lines all around the building for Jedi (a bit too young to remember how the lines were for Empire). Unfortunately StarWars '77 I didn't get to see until after Empire came out (my parents thought I was "too young" to handle it - despite having a bunch of SW Action figures)...but again it was at this theater where I also saw StarWars '80 rerelease. |
